Answer

Since this book is on credit repair, I want to preface the answer to this question with a question; "Do you really need a big screen TV?" Big screen televisions have really come down in price. You can now buy a "nice" big screen TV for about $1200 - $2000.If you go to one of the main stream stores and try to apply for credit you will most definitely be turned down, so save yourself the time.

Instead, I would open up the yellow pages and look for a smaller "mom and pop" shop that sells TVs and does TV repair. Typically you will find that they have used big screen TVs that they will guarantee (since they can always repair them). They may also offer in-house financing that they provide themselves. If they are not advertising it, ask! Many times these store owners will bend over backwards to make a deal. If you have a small down payment, that will help.

Another option if you just can't wait is to rent. It is not a complete solution and it tends to be expensive, but you rent-to-own. When you have paid the total price of the television (typically quite a bit more than had you bought it in the store, since you are makin payments) you own it!
